RLAM’s Responsible Investment Team oversees research into and engagement on environmental, social and corporate governance issues. As well as sharing their expertise across RLAM’s investment teams, they work particularly closely with our Sustainable Funds Team, who manage a diverse range of well-regarded sustainable funds with an enviable track record.

Niall O’Shea
Head of Responsible Investing
Niall oversees The Co-operative Asset Management’s corporate engagement and research on environmental, social and corporate governance issues. His sector specialist areas include Natural Resources, Utilities and Tobacco.  He led the annual Good Companies Guide ranking of the FTSE350 published annually in The Observer. He sits on the board of the Institutional Investor Group on Climate Change. Niall worked in teaching before joining The Co-operative Financial Services as a Corporate Governance Analyst in 2001 and holds a BA in English and Geography from the University of Cork, Ireland and an M.Phil. in Environment & Development from Cambridge University. 

Ashley Hamilton Claxton, Corporate Governance Manager

Ashley oversees RLAM's corporate governance analysis, company engagement and proxy voting. Before joining, Ashley was a Shareholder Engagement Executive at PIRC where she conducted corporate engagement and ESG analysis for the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF). Prior to that she was a research analyst and corporate engagement consultant for SHARE, a proxy voting and shareholder engagement consultancy based in Vancouver, Canada. She has a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia.

Gail Counihan, Responsible Investment Analyst

Gail joined RLAM in April 2016 as a Responsible Investment Analyst, to assist with company research and implementation of the responsible investment strategy. Gail previously worked for Barclays Bank in their Sustainability team focusing on Integration and Strategy. Prior to that she held roles within Investment Banking Change Management at Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Analysis from Stellenbosch in South Africa, and a Masters in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability from Aston Business School.

Victoria McArdle, Sustainable Investment Analyst

Victoria joined the Sustainable team in 2016 as an analyst covering both financial and ESG. Prior to this she was a client relationship manager at RLAM, responsible for local authority, charity and pension fund clients. She originally joined the company in 2009, having spent three years in the interim at T. Rowe Price in the international fixed income team as an investment liaison, providing support to the portfolio managers. She started her career on a graduate programme at Aviva Investors. Victoria has a BSc in Natural Sciences from the University of Durham.
